When your Virtual Summit Guest is a No-Show

I still remember my first virtual summit No-show… boy was that tough.

See people always ask about Virtual Summit Tech, Virtual Summit Software and all that other stuff, but I always try to explain that the Tech is the least of their concerns, the most interesting challenge is dealing with the schedules and the people.

So what do you do when you have all the right Virtual Summit Software but your guest is a no-show.

Well you can be like Osayi A and get angry and sulk because you feel like these people don’t respect your time or the fact that you had to pay for a babysitter for your toddler, or that you didn’t sleep through the night preparing for the interview…etc. etc. etc.

Or you can be like Osayi B and say well, maybe they forgot, or maybe something important came up… expect the best and move on to more productive things. Yes it’s painful, Yes it’s an inconvenience, but that’s part of the whole process…

So what do I do now?

  1. I reschedule them for a few days time, around the same time they requested.
  2. Then I email them or send them a message on any social media platform letting them know that I’ve rescheduled them, but that they can let you know when will be convenient for them.
  3. Then I go on to the next item on my to-do list

Keep the tone light and friendly, it’s nothing personally against you.

And if they still do not show up… guess what you have millions of other amazing speakers that would love the opportunity to be on your summit…so just move on.

And most times they will come back and apologize profusely – because most of the people you would consider for your summit are awesome anyway.

So don’t ever forget that you can master Virtual Summit Tech, you can Master Virtual Summit Platforms, but to be most successful as a Virtual Summit Host, you want to Master how to win friends and influence people.

3 Essentials for a profitable blog

The first blog I ever had led me to becoming a relationship coach.

I didn’t do it on purpose

but it was what many of my friends were talking about, so I would write about my opinions on being single, strong, and amazing.

Before I knew it, the blog resonated with quite a few people and I drew a bit of a following.

It took a while before I knew how to make money from the following though, but when I finally figured it out, I was more excited to share and blog because I knew I would make money from the process.

Throughout my experience with blogging I have learned that to make money as a blogger you need these 3 essentials.

  1. Clarity – You need to be very clear about what you are talking about and who you are talking to. If you’re confused then those reading your blog will also be confused, so you need to work hard to ensure that you are very clear about exactly who you want to read your blog and what you want them to gain from your blog.
  2. The next thing is planning – whenever I have planned my blog posts, I have found that I am able to make more income, but when things are not planned, I feel rushed, hurried and it becomes challenging to create the kind of income I want to create.
  3. Influencers – One thing one of the speakers in the MoneyMaking Blog virtual summit said that stood out to me was that new leaders are not made they are appointed. So you need to connect with influencers so that you can be a leader in your industry and attract more clients and more income.

The MoneyMaking Blog virtual summit will take you into more details about creating a profitable blog and building a business around your blog – we have 20+ leaders in the industry sharing all their secrets. You don’t want to miss it- Click here to register now

Virtual Summit: What I learned from Pitching at She Leads Africa about Virtual Summits

A few days ago I went to an event with She Leads Africa to pitch on Virtual Summits.
I was so excited for the opportunity to win $500 in Facebook Advertising Credits

Now of course you may be saying – “Osayi, you can easily make $500” and you would be right, but who can resist having an increased advertising budget.

Anyway so I went to the pitch and I was sooooo excited…I had already spent the money in my mind (lol).

But guess what happened…I didn’t win… I know…such a bummer

But I learned so much, and I want to share a few things that I learned.

  1. First thing I learned is that if you want your pitch to be memorable then make sure you tell a story. I don’t know how I missed this. I was so busy memorizing the statistics and being excited about all the things we were planning that I forgot to tell personal stories about all the amazing things that have been going on around the Virtual Summits.
  2. Second thing is even when you lose the main thing you went there to gain, you can still gain many other things – I was able to connect with some other amazing ladies, who were interested in us collaborating together and accomplishing some amazing things together…so you better watch out for us
  3. Third thing is that no matter what is going on, it is still possible to give your best – that morning I had to take my daughter to the pediatrician because she wasn’t feeling well, and then ran back to the event, but no one would have guessed that I had been running up and down the whole morning – because I smiled, strutted and gave my best.
  4. Fourthly, You cannot underestimate exposure  – Someone reached out to me from Zimbabwe…so who knows what will happen with that. These are exciting times.
  5. Finally – when you’re a winner, you’re always a winner – See I didn’t get this opportunity, but because I know that I’m destined to win, I took it as a learning experience and not as a devastating blow. Now of course no one likes to lose…especially if you’ve already spent all the money in your mind (lol), but whether you get the result you want or not, if you’re a winner, you’re still a winner.

One of my favorite books on pitching is “Made to Stick” by Chip and Dan Heath

If I had re-read that book before the event, I probably would have won!

The first thing they say is START WITH A STORY…yeah you see what I mean…

So don’t make the mistake I made – Get the book.

What other things would you add? What have you learned from experiences like these?

Virtual Summit: What I learned from Speaking at Social Media Week (part 2)

Virtual Summits can be confusing for some people, but when you talk about some of the benefits of participating in the virtual summit, then you will see their eyes light up.

In the Last post I talked about what I learned about participants at events, if you didn’t read it yet – you can click here to read it.

Today I want to talk about how you can talk about virtual summits without talking about virtual summits

See the thing is there are many people who know what a virtual summit is, but there are also a lot of people who don’t know what a virtual summit is, so you always need to be sharing the benefits, and you always need to be talking about something that is interesting to them so that you can get access to them.

For example my talk was teaching people how to create websites.

Now you might say that creating websites has nothing to do with virtual summits, but actually it does.

See if a bootstrapper was planning to create a virtual summit then they would either need to know how to create a website or how to talk to the person who will be creating the website for them.

In virtual summit camp we take you through the process of learning how to use WordPress to create your website, and even if you never create your website yourself, one thing you can be confident knowing is that you will never be stranded if your web developer disappears.

How about you? What are some things that you could teach about – that will ultimately attract people to your virtual summit?

Virtual Summit: What I learned from Speaking at Social Media Week (part 1)

Virtual Summits can be confusing for some people, but when you talk about some of the benefits of participating in the virtual summit, then you will see their eyes light up.

Speaking at Social Media Week  was so much fun, I met so many people, and I could tell that I was making a difference – that’s what makes life meaningful after all.

I learned so many things, and I want to share a few of them with you.

The first thing I learned is that there will be three types of people that attend your event:

    • People who need what you’re offering – Whatever solution you are providing they are interested in that, so you need to make sure that what you’re providing is actually giving them that solution.
    • People who like you – these people may not need what you’re offering, but they are interested in you, they want to support you, they want to learn from you. You want to provide some time for them as well, so they can get the fullness of your awesomeness.
    • People who want to know if you really know what you’re talking about – Well there are two different categories of people like this – some may want to know more about you so they can work with you in the future, others may want to look for a way to tarnish your image…be prepared, be prepared, be prepared.

So during my talk I tried to make sure that I was helping to meet the needs of the different groups of people that were there.

And this applies to when you are promoting your virtual summit – know that there will be three groups of people in attendance, so prepare for these groups of people.

The other thing I learned is that Virtual Summits can be confusing, so be prepared to explain what exactly it is and why people need to participate in it.

Now one thing I did was although my talk was about virtual summits, it wasn’t about virtual summits…I know it’s a bit confusing right?

Want to know more about what I mean? I will share with you in part 2 of this blog post

Virtual Summit: Are you good enough host your own virtual summit?

Virtual Summit: Have you considered hosting a virtual summit?

Are you convinced that a virtual summit will be great for your career, or your business? Can you already see how a virtual summit will help propel you as the Go-To-Expert in your industry….

But….

You’re not sure if you’re good enough to host a virtual summit.

Virtual Summit Host

You may not use those exact words, but you will say something like

  • Oh I don’t have much to teach anyone
  • Nobody would agree to speak at my event
  • I’m not great with technology
  • (insert any other reason)

Well I want to use this opportunity to let you know that a Virtual Summit is just like any other endeavor, if you are committed to hosting one, then strategy is the easiest thing to learn.

I beg you, don’t ever ever ever let the thought that you are not good enough, or you don’t have enough knowledge, or you don’t know the right people stop you.

Because truth be told, You are just as good as any of those other people that you’ve seen hosting a virtual summit…and to be frank you probably know more than some of them.

So…what’s your excuse for not hosting your first virtual summit yet?

One Way to find the Perfect Idea for your Virtual Summit

People often ask how I get ideas for all the virtual summits I run. Well there are several ways that you can find an idea that is great. But one of my favorite ways of finding a great idea is using good old Google.

All you need to do is go to google.com and check for an idea that you may be thinking about, maybe something that you are interested in.

For example for the book summit that I ran, what I did was to search on google for writing books.

But my focus wasn’t just on writing books but on using books to launch a business – generating different types of income through your books.

So I had to be creative in my search.

I also looked at what other people may be asking about making money with their book

And then finally I looked at how many results came up, because that helped me to determine whether people really care about this topic, whether there were a lot of people writing about this topic, and whether there were a lot of people researching this topic.

Now granted I don’t necessarily need millions of people to have a successful summit, but if there are hundreds of thousands interested in a topic, then if you can get access to at least a few thousand then you are on the right track.

So what are your thoughts and questions?

How do you find a topic for your virtual summit?
