Kick! Bite! Scream! Fight!: Bully the Bullies

My first year of high school was tough. I was always getting bullied. The kids teased me about my African accent, they teased me about my forehead, they teased me about my skinny legs. Pretty much anything that was beautiful and unique about me they teased me about. There was one particular student who picked me as his favorite person to bully. He was really tall, big a little slow and very intimidating. He sat behind me in Geography class and we had one empty seat between us. Everyday on my way to my seat he would set his foot out to trip me. Then when I finally got to my seat he would push the empty chair into mine and would give me crazy headaches for the rest of the day. I tried to play nice and just ignore him. Then I tried to be nice to him to pacify him, then I tried to stay out of his way, but it was impossible, I had class with him everyday.

One day I went to pick up a paper from the teacher’s desk and on the way there I could hear him snickering and on the way back he tried to trip me, but he didn’t realize that this was not the day to mess with me. I dropped my piece of paper and pushed him as hard as I could. I pushed with both my hands on his chest as forcefully as I could. I just kept pushing and screaming at him, yelling about how he needed to leave me alone and stop bothering me, and how I wasn’t afraid of him. I kept pushing and pushing until the teacher came to separate us. Everyone looked at me like “oh no! the African kid snapped” but I didn’t care. After that day I had more peace in the class. He would still try to bug me every now and then, but he realized that I wouldn’t be pushed around any more.

Depression and Loneliness are twin bullies. They come into your life when you least expect it. Make a home in your apartment and verbally abuse you. They tell you that you are worth nothing, that you will never be happy and that God will never give you what you desire. Depression and Loneliness are liars and they can never be trusted. Whenever you hear them speaking, I give you permission to get angry! Don’t try to pacify them, don’t try to talk rationally to them, don’t try to appease them. The only way to deal with them is to fight like your life depended on it – because it does.

When you hear Depression and Loneliness talking, I give you permission to kick, bite scream and fight and you know what? they’ll think twice about coming back.

Remember life is meant to be won!
