Why do people steal

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about stealing. It’s easy to say that we are all innately wicked, and that is why we steal, but I’ve been wondering…

Some say it’s because of poverty, but I know people raised poor who don’t steal. They may have stolen when they were younger, but for whatever reason no longer choose to steal.

Some say it’s because they were raised not to steal, but I know people raised not to steal – perhaps even pastors’ kids, who steal at the drop of a hat.

The only reason I can conclude with would be a lack of fear of God. And by fear, I’m not talking about trembling and afraid. I’m talking about realizing that our decisions mean something to God, and that God cares about what we do, and that there are consequences for every action.

People steal, and they will continue to, until the end of time, I just wish we understood this urge more, and were able to help people to choose a better choice – a choice that is less harmful, and more beneficial to society in general.

Why do you think people steal?

Competition is the solution to a lot of Nigerian problems – ShopriteNG

I go to a store that I don’t enjoy going to. But they are the only ones around my area that sell the coconut milk that I like.

I go to Shoprite Nigeria often, because they are the only ones that sell a variety of items in one location.

I purchase from Nigerian online stores sometimes, because it’s easier than trying to go to the market, struggling for parking, searching for the item, not sure if what you’re purchasing is counterfeit and then coming back home exhausted.

But all of these places have failed me many times, and I wish I could stop, but these are items I would like to purchase and I don’t have a better choice.

I’m daring us as Nigerians to start creating better choices. Let us stop thinking about how much money we can hoard for our generations, and think how we can serve our people – because you know what? If you can provide us with something better, we will reimburse you with all that money that is right now going to South Africa.

The other day, my cousin was pick pocketed in Shoprite Ikeja, and all the people could say was sorry. Their cameras are only focused on the Tills, and only because they don’t want us stealing their money, but they don’t care about customers being stolen from, or being attacked. All they can say is sorry.

I’m tired of hearing “sorry.” Sorry not sorry. If you’re really sorry you will make changes. If you’re really sorry you will fix the problems. But you’re not sorry, you just think that’s what we want to hear.

It’s not.

Competition will solve a lot of these problems. And Competition is here – Let’s go to Ebeano instead – it’s not the greatest, but it’s much better.

No grade for effort

In the real world there is no grade for effort.

I think school has spoiled us. If we ever had a good teacher, an encouraging teacher, she would always grade us based on our effort, and our willingness to try. Some people, I think, never get past that. They keep thinking that they should be pardoned because they tried, or that they should be celebrated because at least they attempted…

But that is not how life works. No one pays for the “almost” solution, no one praises the one who didn’t quite make it. Yes I believe that people are quick to forget your past failures (in business), but that is only after you have succeeded.

So young people, the truth is, as a person trying to make money from other people, you don’t have the luxury of “almost getting it right” or “trying to get it right.” In the words of Yoda, you either do or you don’t there is no try. There is no reward for almost, or for the effort of getting to almost – except your own personal reward of accomplishment, and the knowledge you gained through the experience. But as far as me giving you my hard earned money just because you tried… well my dear it’s not going to happen. The real world pays for real results. You pay school to encourage your journey, and your effort.

Don’t confuse the difference, and you will go far in life.

This Girl is on fire

Ever since we watched the Gabby Douglas movie, my niece has loved the song with those lyrics. And whenever we want to get her hyped up, we begin singing the song.

I’ve been reading a lot lately, and doing some different things, and I’ve been feeling like my brain is on fire. I’m in love with life and with learning. It feels as if I’m thinking straighter, full of ideas, and learning so much.

The past few weeks have been full of opportunities to get discouraged, but because my focus has been on other things, I haven’t been discouraged. I have begun to expect amazing things to happen, and they have been happening… I know I sound a little unstable, but that’s what happens when your brain is on fire.

What things have you wanted to learn, but you’ve been delaying? Why not find a way to learn them this weekend. What activities have you been planning to try, but you’ve been procrastinating? Why not give them a try this weekend. What things have you been so afraid to try? Perhaps it’s time to get out of your comfort zone, do some amazing things… and begin to sing to yourself “this girl is on fire!”

Stay Curious

There are so many things I’m curious about.

Like how do people born in the same family have different personalities? or how does someone survive in Nigeria and maintain some form of honesty? or how did the space shuttle really land on the moon? How did someone ever think about inventing a car?

How was music first invented? How did human beings even understand how to procreate? How do businesses go from death to life? How does a girl’s body keep the dna program that tells it to develop into a woman at a certain time? When does a girl become a woman – physically, emotionally, mentally? What would life have been like if I made decision A, or B, or 5, or 9?

What was going through a person’s mind when they decided to build a train track or a train? What was going through my mind today, that kept me from being my best?

etc. etc. etc.

The more I read, the more I know, the more I know I don’t know, the more I want to read.

What are you curious about?

Prostitution, Economics, and Free Love

Prostitutes prices are going down

Prostitutes are leaving the job

Is this good news?

Maybe…except that…

One of the reasons prices are going down is the availability of “friends with benefits,” and “one night stands.”

Isn’t that interesting… it almost seems that Prostitutes value themselves more than some of the ladies today.

Do you speak, and people don’t listen?

Do you wish that people would listen to what you have to say?

Do you wish that people would stop misinterpreting your comments?

Next Time you're tempted to say you hate reading

I love reading and I’m not ashamed to say it. I recently shared a post of some of the books I read recently, or I’m currently reading, and people kept asking how do I get the time to read it, with having a baby, working a full time job etc… my response is, reading is a rare privilege, so I make time for it.

I’ve been learning a lot about adult illiteracy, and the research is astounding. Do you know that just because you learned how to read as a child, your brain has created synapses that adults who didn’t learn how to read do not possess. Do you realize that literates tend to have a longer short term memory than illiterates, just because of the ability to read. Do you realize that when adults work on being literate, if they don’t achieve mastery and they stop working at it, they actually digress – I mean can you imagine being a “literate” after years of work…and then months later you’re “illiterate” again.

Reading is not just about amusing yourself, it’s about learning from others’ mistakes, expanding your mind, and it’s about the cheapest way you can acquire information – and perhaps accomplish all those big dreams you’ve been dreaming.

So next time you’re tempted to say “I hate reading” remember that there are millions of people wishing they were privileged with the opportunity to read.

In Business your mistakes don't matter

All that matters in Business is that you get it right once. Then everyone can tell you how lucky you are. – Mark Cuban

I know a few successful business people. Some began businesses based on trying to help people that they saw were in need. Some began businesses because they had experience in the field and they saw they would be able to make money. The funny thing is that when these people get successful, we are quick to mention how lucky, or smart or special they must be, but we are quick to forget all the other business ideas that didn’t make it.

I remember when one of the successful business owners shared his story about praying and fasting for a job, and how thrilled they were to get the job, but only to return a few days later to find out the company was downsizing and he no longer had a job.

I remember when another successful business owner shared the story of starting a business, and then losing lots of money because one of his staff members stole from him.

I remember when another successful business owner shared the story of having to close down a passion of hers because she wasn’t making any profit, and how sad it was to let it go.

But too many people don’t talk about those stories. We may read it and think wow! they went through a lot, but we don’t think much about it, because afterall they were so “lucky” they are enjoying the good times now.

I love reading about entrepreneurs, because those stories encourage me, and I hope it encourages you too. Perhaps you will make many mistakes, perhaps it will take some time, but soon people will say “Isn’t she so lucky to be so successful.”

And you will smile and shake your head because you know you’re the “luckiest” person alive.

Children's day 2015

It’s mother’s day today I mean sorry It’s Children’s day. But it might as well be Mother’s day since a lot of moms are running around today trying to find something fun for their children to do. Sigh* The work of a mother is never done…

Anyway it’s children’s day and the world is messssssssed up! And it keeps getting worse. Children are starving all over the world, there are wars and more wars, there are sexual abuses within the homes, in schools, churches etc., Children are being kidnapped from their homes and other safe places… Yes the world is messsed up!!!

So I’m thinking today, perhaps instead of running around trying to find something for my child to do (since she is too young to understand anyway), I will just be praying for her, and for the children of the world.

  • I pray for prolonged innocence – I pray that children will not have to learn about sexuality until they are old enough to truly understand what it is. I pray that children will not have to learn how terrible the world can be, because they will be protected by loving adults
  • I pray for Love – I pray that children will know what it means to love and be loved. I pray that children will not lose their parents at a young age, but for those who have, that people will rise up and protect them.
  • I pray for their future – I pray that children will have access to everything they need for a successful future. I pray that people will rise up with solutions for water, food, or education shortages. I pray that people will rise up to encourage children to continue dreaming big dreams.

Most importantly I pray for peace, because when there is peace, children will be free to be their joyful selves.

Enjoy Children’s day 2015!

Please continue to pray with us.
